• This year Hanshew is introducing PBIS (Positive 
      Behavioral Interventions and Support). PBIS is a research
      based framework for teaching and supporting positive
      behavior for ALL students. This school-wide approach
      focuses on building a safe and positive environment in
      which all students can learn. In support of this Hanshew
      has adopted these 4 simple principles for staff and 
      students to follow.

New Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy 25/26

  • Electronic Devices

    Per ASD's Electronic Communication Devices (ECD) Policy, students are not permitted to access ECDs during school hours, 9:30am-4:00pm, but may access them before and after school. All devices should be put away and not visible during prohibited hours. Students who may require the use of an ECD for medical or other needs will be approved on a case-by-case basis. Students are required to turn over their ECD when requested to by school personnel; refusal to do so may result in disciplinary actions. Parents will be required to pick up the ECD from the Front Office during the working hours of 8:15am-4:45pm. 

Dress Code

  • Hanshew Middle School dress code will be enforced at all times. Dress at school needs to be appropriate; it cannot be disruptive to learning, unsafe or gang-related. Dress that has writing or images related to alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, sex, or gangs is inappropriate. The following are examples of inappropriate clothing:

     

    • Headgear/Head coverings of any kind is prohibited unless worn for a medical, cultural, and/or religious expression. Exceptions will be considered for spirit weeks, special celebrations, and other concerns.

     

    • Clothing that is too revealing, too small, see-through or sagging, exposed midriffs, low-cut tops or sides, strapless, spaghetti straps, no tank-tops, short-shorts, short skirts (more than 2 inches above the top of a knee cap), or any combination of shorts and leggings, short skirt and leggings, short dress and leggings.

     

    ○ Clothing that is too large, baggy, or bulky. Examples include: oversize jeans, oversize shirts. Pants that are too big to stay up above the hipbones without a belt are too baggy.

     

    During the winter months (2nd and 3rd quarter), no flip flops, sandals, open-toed shoes or slippers. This is a safety hazard that could cause frostbite during safety drills and evacuations.

     

    ○ Outerwear (coats, heavy jackets, heavy vests, hats, ball caps, sunglasses) must be stored in the lockers.

     

    ○ Undergarments and the students' rear MUST remain entirely covered even while seated.

     

    ○ NO dresses, skirts and shorts or pants that are too short and revealing are allowed. No exposed skin shown on the upper thigh area.

     

    Students who wear inappropriate clothing to school will be required to change into something appropriate. This will be accomplished by having parents/guardians bring appropriate clothes to school, or exchanging inappropriate clothes for clothes provided if available, by the school. Start on Time

    • Hanshew Start on time  

    • It is each student’s responsibility to arrive to class on time. 

    • The first bell rings at 9:15 a.m., and the Tardy bell rings at 9:30 a.m. If a student is going to be Tardy, Parents should report the Tardy no later than 9:20 a.m.  

    • Parents must report through ParentConnect, provide a signed note, phone call, or accompany your student to the Front Office, or your child's Tardy will be Unexcused.   

    • “On time” means before the bell rings.   

    • Tardies are cumulative through an entire quarter. 

    • Detentions will be issued by the assistant principal. 

    • Detentions are generally served at lunch the same day (if assigned before lunch) or the next day (if assigned after lunch). Students have 2 days to serve the detention. 

    • Students with excessive tardies or refusal to serve lunch detention will have a referral to the office for additional disciplinary action.
