All students of the Anchorage School District may apply for entry into alternative, optional, and charter schools of the district. The district utilizes a lottery system to provide an equal opportunity for students who request participation in a program or school other than their neighborhood school. Approval or denial is based on space availability and grade-level balance.
Lottery
If the number of applications exceeds the number of available spots for a particular program, a lottery is used to fill the openings. Lotteries are held two times a year. Prior to enrollment, every family is expected to attend a school tour and participate in a detailed orientation. School tours are held on most Tuesday mornings from 9-10 am, or by appointment. Please call 907.742.0139 to schedule a tour. Upon being offered a position for a new student, families will be offered several orientation dates and times to choose from.
