Electronics and Telecommunications: Fundamentals of Electronics
Dan Retzinger - Instructor
Mr. Retzinger has professional teacher certification in Biology and Physical Science with math endorsements. He is a Certified Fiber Optics Installer (FOI), a General Communications Technician - Level 1 (GCI-1), and an Associate Certified Electronics Technician (CETa). He has a 50-ton U.S. Coast Guard Master License and is certified in First Aid/CPR. He was Technology Coordinator at SAVE High, and a biology and physical science teacher at East High. He was in the US Army Reserves 1991-1998, and a production supervisor for Chart Industries, 1996-2001. He is currently a charter boat captain. He has been awarded the ASD Denali Award in 2012, and ASD Coach of the Year in 2010. He coached rifle team at East High for 11 years.
Grade level 11-12. One semester. Prerequisite: Algebra I with a grade of “C” or higher. .

This is a hands-on course that emphasizes basic electronics theory and application, including basic AC and DC circuits, semi-conductor technology, electrical safety, proper tool usage, soldering, series and parallel circuits, electrical and electronic components, circuit diagrams, electrical wiring, and test equipment.
Students can earn electronics certifications, from the Electronics Technicians Association, upon successful course competition and passing ETA's certification exams. Students may enjoy advanced standing at other post-secondary institutions.
