Eligibility
Music Eligibility for Region IV and ASAA State Music Activities
Music ensembles such as band, choir, and orchestra, are both curricular and extra-curricular. We have the opportunity to participate in both Region IV and ASAA State music festivals.
The festivals are:
- All-State Large group music festival held each year in November.
- Region IV Solo/Ensemble held each year in the 3rd quarter. If you qualify at Regions, you continue on to the
- ASAA State Solo/Ensemble Festival in May.
You must be eligible for each of these events, just like you would be for a sport. The eligibility process confirms that you have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, are a South High Student, and are enrolled in enough classes.
Eligibility Process:
1. All registration paperwork for high school activities is housed in a platform called Planet HS. Students AND parents/guardians need to compete registration forms on Big TeamsLinks to an external site. each school year they participate in activities. Choose MUSIC and then choose either Music-All State or Music-Solo & Ensemble. (Note: Physical Examination, Concussion Information, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Forms are not required for student musicians.)
3. Go to the activities office and see Ms. Kollander for your grade check and GOLDEN TICKET. Bring your GOLDEN TICKET to Mrs. Nelson.
- The All-State audition fee is $20 per audition and an additional $20 if you are selected to participate.
- The State Solo/Ensemble fee is $20 per student.
You must also be in good standing in your ensemble and have your director’s approval. All-State auditions will be recorded with your choir teacher. Solo/Ensemble repertoire must also be coordinated through your choir teacher.
