Fresh Facility
Winterberry's facility was designed by RIM Architects, built by Criterion General in 2012 with an addition in 2015. As a charter school of the Anchorage School District, we honor Dena'ina land. The school is situated in Anchorage's College Gate neighborhood in the U-Med District near the Chester Creek Trail system, known by Dena'ina place name, Chanshtnu (Grassy Creek). Alaska Pacific University ski trails skirt the forest surrounding the school and are shared by Winterberry's Grade 6-8 cross country running team and ski team.
Winterberry's campus and facility draw from key elements of Waldorf philosophy, taking into account the importance of sensory experiences in child development. Harmonious spaces, natural lighting, thoughtful use of color, connection with nature, safety and comfort inform a drive toward simplicity.

Visit Friends of Winterberry Play Yard website to learn about exciting improvements to the surrounding outdoor play yard. A public process is underway to realize plans for Winterberry's social, natural, imaginative outdoor campus. The two-phase plan broke ground in summer 2023 and will continue through summer 2024.
