What Is Waldorf Education?

  • Winterberry Charter School is a member of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education. The Alliance works to revitalize public education through innovation that is developmentally sound, and supports high quality Public Waldorf Education meeting the needs of students of our times.

Founded in the early 20th century, Waldorf education is based on the insights, teachings and principles of education outlined by philosopher and education reformer, Rudolf Steiner. The principles of Waldorf education evolve from an understanding of human development that address the needs of the growing child. Waldorf students cultivate a lifelong love of learning as well as the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals certain of their paths and to be of service to the world.
