Attendance Policies:
The Anchorage School District requires notice from parents verifying their child's absence. Absences should be called in to the front office at 742-3300 by 9:00 a.m. You can also email alpenglowoffice@asdk12.org to report an absence. Please give the child’s name, teacher’s name, date(s), and reason for the absence.
At Alpenglow, we know that strong attendance builds strong learners. When students are on time and at school every day, they stay connected to lessons and build a solid work ethic. Our goal is 90% attendance for the year, because missing more than 18 days, even excused, can make it hard to keep up. Every day counts!
Absences are only excused when a parent or guardian notifies the school with a phone call or written note. ASD policy allows excused absences for medical reasons, family emergencies, and religious observances. While we understand the importance of family vacations, the district does not consider them excused. A form is no longer required, but please continue to call or send a note if your child will be absent.
Please follow the Anchorage School District website link for more detailed information about attendance policies - ASD Attendance Policies.
How the First and Last 15 Minutes Shape the School Day
Arrival Routine
The first 15 minutes of the school day set the tone for learning. As students arrive, they are greeted by staff and peers, turn in homework, and begin morning routines that help them focus and prepare for the day ahead. Arriving on time ensures your child doesn’t miss important instructions and starts the day feeling confident and ready to learn.
End-of-Day Routine
The final 15 minutes of the school day are an important part of your child’s learning. During this time, students clean up their space, receive homework instructions, hear reminders for the next day, and reflect on their learning. Being present for the full day helps students feel prepared and responsible.
Attendance Expectations
We understand that sometimes children may arrive late or need to leave early. However, we encourage families to respect the full school day by ensuring students arrive on time, ready to be in their classrooms by 8:00 a.m., and stay until dismissal at 2:30 p.m. Every minute counts, and we have a lot to accomplish in a limited time.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s learning. Regular attendance and punctuality make a big difference in their success. Let’s make this school year one full of growth, achievement, and positive moments, aiming for every student to be in school at least 90% of the time. We appreciate your continued support!
