Excused and Unexcused Absences

What is an “excused absence”? 

ASD recognizes the following categories as excusable absences:

• Personal Illness. Death or serious illness in the immediate family.

• Participation in a school function (student activity absence).

• Attendance at religious services.

• Extenuating circumstances approved by the principal.

In the event a student will be absent from school, the parent/guardian is to contact the Attendance Office in person, by email: southattendance@asdk12.org, or by telephone at 907-566-5600. Absences can also be reported via Q/ParentConnect and should be excused within 24 hours of the absence. Absences that have not been excused within 3 days will remain unexcused.
