How is excessive absence defined?
If a student misses ten (10) or more days in a semester, excused or unexcused, they are considered to have excessive absences and may be placed on attendance probation. A student may also be identified as habitually truant because of excessive absences (Student Handbook, I-12).
What are the consequences of excessive absence?
-
A student with 10 or more consecutive absences without parent contact may be dropped from enrollment.
-
Schools may withhold credit for any class with 15 absences. Parents may request evaluation based on extenuating or special circumstances (I- 11-12) (see also: footnote in this document).
-
Students withdrawn due to excessive absence will have a “WF” (withdrawal-failing) recorded on the transcript (I-12).
